Artichokes Drop Five-Setter in Region Final

Scottsdale and Mesa battled all night, but in the end, it was the host Thunderbirds who came out on top in five sets to win the NJCAA Region I Division II Volleyball Championship and berth to the NJCAA Volleyball National Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Mesa started the match by winning the opening set 25-22. Scottsdale gained control early in the second set to even the match at 1-1 with a 25-19 win. The third set was tight throughout, but the Thunderbirds held on for a 25-23 win. The Artichokes showed their resilience with a dominate 25-16 fourth set, setting up the decider. In the fifth set Mesa was able to get the early lead and despite the fight back from SCC, came out on top 15-12 to claim the Region title for the second-straight season.

Scottsdale (13-7) were the #3 seed in the tournament, while Mesa (22-7) were the tournament's top-seed.

Also, the Artichokes were well represented in the postseason awards. Anissa El-Ali was named to the All-ACCAC First Team. Tanner Robinson and Ella Petcu were named to the All-ACCAC Second Team. El-Ali was also an All-Region selection.
