Scottsdale's Season Comes to an End at Region Tourney

The #4 seed Scottsdale softball team saw their season come to an end today at the NJCAA Region 1 Tournament at Phoenix College.

In the Artichokes' first game they fell to #2 seed Pima 8-4. SCC opened a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run home run by Sydnee Levandowski. The Aztecs answered with a run in the bottom of the inning.

Pima took a lead they would not relinquish with three runs in the third to take a 4-2 lead. SCC closed the gap to 4-3 in the fourth on a solo home run from Levandowski. Pima put the game away with a four-run fourth. Isabelle Aguirre was charged with the loss.

The loss dropped Scottsdale into the loser's bracket where they faced #3 South Mountain. The Cougars earlier in the day eliminated #1 Phoenix with a 5-3 win.

South kept their momentum from their earlier contest and defeated Scottsdale 11-3 in six innings.

The Cougars jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first. A Bailey Nichols two-run single in the second followed by a Mackenzie Larson RBI single knotted things at 3-3 in the second inning. South later scored two runs in the fourth, five in the fifth and one in the sixth to end the game. Kailyn Montoya took the loss.

SCC finishes the 2025 season with a 29-21 overall record.

South Mountain and Pima will square off tomorrow, Saturday May 10 to determine the Region Champion. Pima needs only one win, while South needs two against the Aztecs. The first game will begin at 11 a.m. at Phoenix College.
