Softball Upsets PC in Region 1 Opener

The #4 seed Scottsdale softball team upset top seed Phoenix today in their opening game of the 2025 NJCAA Region 1 Softball Tournament. Phoenix College is the tourney host.

PC grabbed a 1-0 lead with a run in the third inning. Scottsdale scored four runs in the fourth inning in a frame that saw the Bears commit three errors. Alexandria Armstrong had an RBI single in the inning and Bailey Nichols plated a run with her sacrifice fly.

Nichols' sacrifice fly in the sixth inning extended Scottsdale's lead to 5-1.

PC scored two in the sixth and trailed 5-3 going into the seventh. The Bears had runners on first and second with two out in the seventh, but Grace Jump induced a lineout to close out the contest. Jump went the distance in another stellar pitching performance.

SCC is now 29-19 overall this season.

Scottsdale advances in the winner's bracket to face #2 seed Pima tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. The Aztecs defeated #3 South Mountain 6-0 in the opening contest of the day. South will face Phoenix at 9 a.m. in an elimination contest.

The day also saw the announcement of the 2025 All-ACCAC Team. Scottsdale saw Jump and Sydnee Levandowski earn Second Team honors. Michaela Whitehair and Kim Hernandez earned Third Team honors.
