SCC Thumps Gateway 12-0
A 10-run second inning led the Artichokes baseball team to a 12-0 home win over Gateway today. The game ended in five innings due to the conference mercy rule. It completed the two-game sweep for SCC and was also their third win in a row.
The win improves the Artichokes to 24-18 overall and 14-16 in the ACCAC. They moved into fifth place in the conference, percentage points ahead of Mesa.
Chris Ricard went 2-for-4 with a double, home run and four RBI to lead SCC. Phoenix West and Jaron Nevarez each had two hits, two runs scored and two RBI. Braden Burness (6-3) pitched all 5.0 innings to secure the win. He allowed two hits, while fanning seven and issuing only one walk.
Scottsdale will now venture into non-conference play with a doubleheader at home with Central Arizona on Saturday, April 5. Game one is set to begin at 12 p.m. Central is 26-10 overall this season and sits in third place in the ACCAC Division I standings. SCC beat them in the lone meeting between the pair earlier in the season.
