The Scottsdale baseball team opened the 2025 season today with a sweep of visiting Nelson JV.

In game one, SCC defeated Nelson 12-0 in five innings. The Artichokes scored in each inning, including seven runs in the fourth. On the mound Dale Fry (1-0) didn't allow a hit and fanned nine in 4.0 scoreless innings to record the win. Luke Patterson pitched 1.0 scoreless inning and also did not allow a hit. Phoenix West and Markus Hamre each had two hits. West had both a double and triple.

Scottsdale used a three-run second to take the game two 6-1. Brevin Matthews had two of SCC's six hits in the game. Brandon Kosel (1-0) allowed only one hit over 4.0 innings to pick up his first win of the season. He struck out eight and walked four.

The Artichokes return to action tomorrow for a doubleheader with Scottsdale PG. First pitch for game will begin at 12 p.m.
