Women's Soccer Falls to Pima in Region Semifinal
The No. 2 seed Scottsdale women's soccer team fell 2-1 to No. 3 seed Pima tonight in the NJCAA Region I Division II Semifinal at SCC.
The loss snaps a 14-match winning streak for the Artichokes. They are now 12-3-1 overall.
Pima got on the board first with a goal in 8th minute on a long ball that sent the Aztec attacker in alone on goal. The two sides would enter half with Pima up 1-0.
Scottsdale applied pressure from the opening whistle of the second half but were unable to get on the scoreboard. Pima then increased their lead to 2-0 on a goal in the 68th minute. SCC would not give in and were rewarded for their effort with a Shayla Hunt long range goal in the 76th minute. The Artichokes continued to threaten the Aztec defense, but the equalizing goal did not come before the final whistle.
Pima will now head to the NJCAA Region I Division II Final where they will face No. 1 seed Phoenix on November 6. Scottsdale's NJCAA National Championships fate will now rest in the hands of the NJCAA selection committee. That decision will be made at the conclusion of NJCAA Region/District play which is set to wrap up next weekend.
