Men's Soccer Playoff Preview; Conference Honors Announced

The Scottsdale men's soccer team will begin NJCAA Region I Division II postseason play tomorrow, October 31 at Phoenix College. The semifinal match will begin at 12 p.m. #2 Pima will host #3 Glendale in the other semifinal. 

Phoenix enters the match as the #1 seed and a record of 16-1-1 overall and 15-1 in the conference. The Bears lone loss came in their final match of the regular season, a 3-1 defeat at Pima. PC is led by Vince Acosta who scored a conference leading 23 goals this season.

Scottsdale enters the playoffs as the #4 seed and is currently on a five-match winning streak. SCC finished the regular season with an 8-7-1 record. The Artichokes leading goal scorer for the year was Huston Harper with nine. Mateo Barth had five goals and team-best five assists. Brayden Perry earned all eight wins in goal for SCC.

The Artichokes were represented well in the conference honors this year. Head Coach Tom Hurdle was named the ACCAC – Region I Division II Coach of the Year. Barth was named to the All-ACCAC Region I Division II Men's Soccer First Team. Teammates Brodi Barone, Harper and Lazar Stamenkovic were named to the Second Team.  Justin Biddle was an Honorable Mention selection.

For those that will be in attendance for the Region playoff tomorrow at Phoenix College, admission is $10 for adults and $7 for students.
