Historic Win Leads SCC to Region Playoffs
They have done it! The Scottsdale men's soccer program have qualifed for the NJCAA Division II Region I Playoffs.
Kicking off at 9 a.m. this morning, SCC secured its fifth win in a row, a 4-0 shutout at South Mountain to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Artichokes to make the playoffs then needed Paradise Valley to win or draw tonight at Mesa. PV did just that, earning a 1-1 draw with Mesa to cap off the long and crazy day and punch the Artichokes' ticket to the postseason.
The win this morning concluded SCC's regular season with a record of 8-7-1. The win carried a monumental milestone for the Scottsdale men's program as it secured the programs first winning season since the 2010 campaign.
In today's match SCC led 2-0 at the half on goals from Huston Harper in the 8th minute and Lazar Stamenkovic in the 34th minute. Harper completed his brace to put SCC up 3-0 in the 71st minute. Truston Hosch closed out the scoring with a goal in the 89th minute. Brayden Perry once again put in an outstanding effort in goal to claim the clean sheet.
Up next for the Artichokes will be an NJCAA Region I Semifinal matchup with top seed Phoenix College. The match will be played at PC at 12 p.m. on October 31.
