Playoff Push Continues After Win Over MCC

The fight for the playoffs continues into the final game of the regular season for the Scottsdale men's soccer team after an impressive 3-1 win over Mesa tonight at SCC.

SCC jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on a goal by Matthew Prior in the 7th minute.  For Prior it was his sixth goal of the season. The Artichokes scored two quick goals to open the second half to put the game away. Brodi Barone scored in the 46th minute and Huston Harper scored on a header a minute later. Mesa netted their only goal of the match in the 65th minute. SCC had nine shots on frame, compared to six for the T-birds.

The win, the fourth in a row, improves the Artichokes to 7-7-1 and gives them 22 points. Mesa also has 22 points, while Paradise Valley has 21. Those three teams are fighting for the fourth and final NJCAA region I playoff spot. For SCC to make they playoffs they will need to win on Saturday morning (9 a.m.) at South Mountain and Mesa would need to lose or draw against Paradise Valley Saturday night (6 p.m.). Mesa holds the tiebreaker if both sides win.
