Softball Clinches NJCAA Region Playoff Spot

After over a decade without a playoff appearance, the Scottsdale Community College softball team clinched their spot to this years NJCAA Region I playoffs with two wins over Mesa this past weekend.

The Artichokes used a 13-hit attack in the opener to win 12-1 in five innings. Nina Slater, Sydnee Levandowski and Kim Hernandez all homered for SCC. Adriana Armstrong picked up her 13th win of the season. In game two, due to a lack of available student-athletes, MCC was forced to forfeit.

Scottsdale is now 19-23 overall and 15-19 in the conference. The Artichokes currently hold the #4 seed for the upcoming NJCAA Region I playoffs. They trail the current #3 seed Chandler-Gilbert by three games, with four regular season contests remaining for both sides. Phoenix College has wrapped up the #1 seed and will be the tournament host. The tournament will be played from May 9-11.

Up next for SCC is their final home contest. They will host Paradise Valley tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.  SCC will then close out the regular season on Saturday, May 4 with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. at Chandler-Gilbert.
