Bio

Sabeana Romero was named the Fighting Artichokes Head Softball Coach in 2021. In her first season, the Fighting Artichokes finished 8-26, with that being one of the better records in the last 4 seasons. With that record, Scottsdale finished 5th in the ACCAC, with the top 4 teams going to Regionals.

In the 2019-2020, Romero was the assistant coach at Reigning 2019 3A State Champions Sabino High School in Tucson Arizona. The season was cut short due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Romero started her coaching career as the Lead Assistant Coach at South Mountain Community College from 2013-2017. In the four years that she assisted the SMCC softball program, they made appearances in the NJCAA Regional tournament every year, and had an overall record of 95-120 and a conference record of 69-100. In those years, they produced an All-American and 8 All-Conference Team players, All-Region Team players and a Valedictorian.  Romero assisted in moving forward 17 graduating sophomores to four-year institutions with athletic scholarships. Her duties included working with the infield, hitters, was the first base coach, practice and game planning, fundraising, and assisting with recruiting and scouting. Romero was able to balance being an assistant coach and also working at SMCC in Enrollment Services and Student Success and Recruitment as a Student Services Specialist. With that experience she was able to assist student-athletes in each step of the enrollment process (Admissions, Advising and New Student Orientation).

Prior to getting into the coaching world, Romero was a graduate of Desert View High School in Tucson Arizona. She then became a 2-year starter at South Mountain Community College. While at SMCC, Romero became a 2 time Academic All American, First Team All American, 2 Time Regional Champion, 2011 NJCAA All-Tournament Team, ACCAC All Conference Second Team, ACCAC All Region Team Division II, SMCC Female Athlete of the Year, and graduated with honors (Phi Theta Kappa). In her Sophomore year, she hit a .493 with 27 Home runs, 25 stolen bases, 70 RBI’s, and 35 walks. She graduated with an Associate of Arts degree and was part of the Honors Program. After SMCC, Romero went on to play at Jackson State University, a Division I Program in Jackson, MS. While at JSU, Romero became 2012 SWAC Hitter of the Year and took the Lady Tigers to the SWAC Championship game. She was also tabbed to be 2013 SWAC Player of Year, but came up short. Romero graduated with Distinction, Magna Cum Laude (3.6 GPA) with a Bachelor’s of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with an Emphasis in Physical Education.

Coach Romero not only wants to grow great student-athletes, but wants to teach and grow strong women who can go into our communities and make a positive impact and change the world. 

Romero lives in Tucson, AZ with her 3-year-old baseball loving son, Xander.
