Bio

Tom Hurdle was named Head Coach of both the Men’s and Women’s soccer programs at Scottsdale CC in the Spring of 2021 after serving the previous 3 seasons as the Associate Head Coach.

The 2020 season, played in the Spring of 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic was Hurdles first as lone Head Coach. The SCC Women had a strong season achieving a 5-2-1 record, reaching a #12 NJCAA D2 National Ranking and placing 7 student athletes on the All-ACCAC / All-Region1 teams (3 1st team, 1 2nd team, 3 honorable mention). Freshman striker Sydney Evans was named NJCAA Division 2 All-American 2nd team – the first SCC Women’s Soccer player to earn All-American Honors in 10 years. Additionally, the Women’s program excelled in the classroom, earning a 3.34 team GPA, with 7 student-athletes earning SCC Honor Roll recognition.

The SCC Men also had a strong spring season, qualifying for the ACCAC / Region 1 playoffs for the first time in over 10 seasons. The program also placed 2 student athletes on the All ACCAC / All Region 1 2nd team. In the classroom the Men earned a 3.09 team GPA, with an impressive 12 student-athletes earning SCC Honor Roll recognition.

In the previous 3 seasons that Hurdle served as the Associate Head Coach alongside Ramiz Sabljic, the two programs had 13 players recognized with All-ACCAC / All-Region 1 athletic honors. In addition to its continued improvement and success on the soccer field, the program worked hard to set a standard and build a culture of academic success, placing 92 student-athletes on the SCC Honor Roll between Fall 2017 and Fall 2020.

Alongside his role leading the SCC Soccer Programs, Hurdle is heavily involved in the local soccer community. He is currently the Director of Coaching for local youth soccer club Phoenix Premier FC. Hurdle is also a US Soccer Girls Youth National Team scout, an Arizona Youth Soccer Association – Olympic Development Program Head Coach and Head Coach of Team USA 6v6 National Team. Among Hurdles standout achievements include; leading Team USA 6v6 to 2 World Cups (5th place finish in Portugal 2018 after a quarter final PK shootout loss to eventual World Champions Germany, and 2nd round 2-0 loss to eventual World Champions Russia in Greece 2019), leading local Men’s UPSL team Sporting AZ FC to victory over local USL-PRO team Phoenix Rising FC in the 2nd Round of the US Open Cup in May of 2018 – eventually dropping in OT in the 3rd round to USL-PRO Fresno FC, and winning the West Region ODP Championships with the 2005 Arizona Girls in January of 2019.

Hurdle currently holds the United States Soccer Federation ‘B’ Coaching License and is currently undertaking the USSF Talent Scout License.

The native of Knaresborough, England came to the United States in 2007 to study and play collegiately where he attended Barton Community College in Great Bend Kansas, playing NJCAA soccer under Coach Oliver Twelvetrees. In his two years at BCC the team was ranked as high as #2 in the nation and amassed a 39-4-2 record winning 2 KJCCC Conference Titles and 1 Region IV Championship. Hurdle was a starter in the 2020 team that gave up only 7 goals in 20 games. In 2009 Hurdle transferred to Grand Canyon University in Phoenix where success continued to follow. Playing under Coach Petar Draksin for 2 years, the program won back to back PAC-WEST Conference Championships, progressing to the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 in 2011.

Upon graduating with a bachelor’s degree in marketing in 2011, Hurdle remained with the GCU Men’s Soccer Program as a graduate assistant coach where he earned a dual masters degree in Business Administration and the Science of Leadership in 2013. In his 5 years on the coaching staff at GCU, Hurdle gained valuable experience as the program transitioned from NCAA Division 2 to NCAA Division 1.

Prior to coming stateside, Hurdle attended King James Secondary School and Harrogate College where he earned a BTEC Certificate in Sport. Coach Hurdle now resides in Tempe, Arizona with his wife Sara.
