After stranding five baserunners in the previous two innings, the Matadors broke through in the fourth inning, tying the game at 1-1 when Carl Sullivan Jr. scored on a wild pitch.

Arizona Western batted eight times in the fifth inning, taking the lead on a Taehyung Kim single before adding another run on a wild pitch to push the lead to 3-1.

Sullivan reached base three times in the game-one win while Nathan Houston doubled and walked. Kim had the lone RBI in the game for the Matadors, going 1-for-2 with a walk.

The Matadors batted 10 times in the first inning and scored four runs, three of which came in on two base-loaded hit-by-pitches and a bases-loaded walk while Fausto Sanchez drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Houston singled in a run before Kim smacked a two-run homer to add three more runs in the second and the Matadors tacked on three more in the third thanks to a sacrifice fly off the bat of Eli Watson and RBI singles by Sergio DeCello and Houston.

DeCello went 3-for-4 with a double while Houston went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the win.
