Mesa Softball celebrated their sophomore T-Birds after a doubleheader against Scottsdale on Saturday.

Mesa fell in the first game of the day against the Artichokes, 12-1 in five innings. The T-Bird bats just weren't on target in the opening game as they failed to consistently get on base.

In the second game SCC jumped out to an early 8-0 lead in the first inning when the game had to be called due to an injury to an MCC player which resulted in Mesa not being able to field a whole team, resulting in a forfeit.

After the games sophomores Catalina Sanchez, Adele Didriksen, Elizabeth Luna, & Alexxa Torres were honored for the time and dedication put into the Mesa Softball program.

The sophomores took a walk around the bases receiving gifts at each bag from teammates, upon arriving at home plate they were given a jar to scoop dirt from the infield.

Catalina Sanchez:
Sanchez has been an instrumental part for Mesa this season, coming from Scottsdale CC, Sanchez stepped up at Mesa as the go to pitcher when MCC's options were limited due to unforeseen circumstances. Sanchez has pitched over 145 innings this season striking out over 50 batters. Sanchez also saw success in the batter's box as she had 30 hits and drove in 10 runs while maintaining a batting average of over .310.

Adele Didriksen

Didriksen appeared in over 30 games this year as she had nearly 30 hits on the season, scored 18 runs, and had a batting average of nearly .300. Defensively Didriksen was a lights out defender in the grass for Mesa, making difficult catches look routine all season.

Alexxa Torres:
Torres saw a bit of action all over the field this season with Mesa needing versatility from the sophomore due to a shortage of players. Torres spent time at first and third base while roaming the outfield this season. At the dish Torres had over 20 hits while driving in 15 runs with a batting average of over .260.

Elizabeth Luna:

Luna, like Torres, spent time in multiple places around the diamond, roaming the outfield and middle infield and even taking innings in the circle for Mesa. Luna had 20 hits this season driving in four runs while batting over .260 on the year.
