Baseball settles for split in doubleheader with Scottsdale

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Oskar Stark drove in four runs in Arizona Western Baseball's (14-7, 7-5) doubleheader split with Scottsdale (12-9, 8-5) winning game one 12-6 before falling in game two 11-10 on Saturday afternoon in Scottsdale.

Stark was one of four Matadors to put together a multi-hit game in game one, going 2-for-3 with a triple while driving in three runs in the win. Gabriel Perez also drove in three runs, going 1-for-3 with a walk.

The Matadors sent 11 batters to the plate in the fourth inning and scored eight runs to pull away from the Fighting Artichokes, breaking a 1-1 tie.

Noah Roberts went 2-for-4 and scored three runs while both Robert Miranda and Wesley Estrella each picked up a pair of singles.

Brady Nelson tossed a complete game, allowing just two earned runs and striking out five batters to earn the win.

Miranda drove in three runs in the Matadors' 11-10 loss in game two, finishing the game 2-for-5 with a double.

The Matadors trailed 11-4 entering the seventh inning before batting nine times and scoring six runs to cut the deficit to a run. Arizona Western put the tying run on base in the ninth inning but a double play ended the Matadors' threat.

Jared Davis picked up a pair of hits, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI while Estrella ended the game 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.

Roland Marte and Bobby Lane combined to allow just one run over 3.2 innings in relief in the Matadors' loss.

The Matadors are back on the road on Friday, March 17, heading to Phoenix to take on South Mountain in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 pm.
