Women's Soccer wins ninth straight beating Scottsdale 4-0

YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 9 ranked Arizona Western Lady Matadors (10-1, 9-0) extended its winning streak to nine games with a 4-0 win over No. 10 (DII) ranked Scottsdale (10-3-1, 7-1-1) on Saturday evening at Matador Soccer Field.

After hitting the bar twice in the first ten minutes, the Lady Matadors opened the scoring in the 13th minute thanks to an individual effort from Yuna Aoki who lofted a ball from the edge of the 18-yard box over the keeper to the back post to put the Lady Matadors in front 1-0.

Rikako Hayami added the second goal for the Lady Matadors in the 53rd minute, heading in a ball off a corner kick from Loegan Alia, giving the Lady Matadors a 2-0 lead. Leigha Dobbins pushed the lead to 3-0 in the 71st minute, heading a ball towards the post before poking the ball past the keeper with her left foot to increase the lead.

The Lady Matadors tacked on a fourth goal in the 82nd minute when the Scottsdale keeper batted away a shot from outside the box, right to the foot of Abigail Nkrumah who finished into an open net, upping the score line to 4-0.

Lady Matadors' goalkeeper Tiany Melendrez recorded the clean sheet for the Lady Matadors, keeping the Fighting Artichokes off the scoreboard for a full 90 minutes in the win.

The Lady Matadors head back out on the road on Tuesday, October 10, heading to Tucson, Ariz., for a matchup with Pima at 4:30 p.m.
