Baseball Splits Two-Game Set with Paradise Valley

The Scottsdale Community College baseball team split a weekend set with Paradise Valley this past week.

Scottsdale pounded out 16 hits to win on Friday at home 13-6. Chris Ricard had four hits for SCC, while teammates Prince Deboskie, Larry Haskins, Vinny Angle and Ben Ruckman each had two hits. Deboskie and Ricard homered. Jase Johnson (3-2) pitched 4.0 scoreless innings in relief to garner the win. He allowed only two hits and fanned five.

SCC did not fare as well in game two at Paradise Valley on Saturday, falling 10-0 in seven innings. The Artichokes were held to just five hits, two of which came from Deboskie. Dale Fry (3-4) started and was charged with the loss.

Scottsdale now stands at 22-22 overall, 12-18 in the conference. They are currently holding onto fourth place in the ACCAC Division II standings. The top four will make it to the NJCAA Region I playoffs. SCC is just one game ahead of fifth place Glendale and two games ahead of Gateway and Phoenix.

Up next is a critical two-game midweek series with Glendale. The Artichokes will host the Gauchos this Tuesday and then travel to GCC on Wednesday. Both games will begin at 3 p.m.
