Softball Earns Split at Yavapai

Softball Earns Split at Yavapai

The Scottsdale softball team traveled to Prescott on Saturday and split their doubleheader with Division I Yavapai.

Yavapai cruised to a 19-4 win in the opener behind a six-run first inning and a four-run second inning. They would later post nine runs in the fourth inning. SCC was limited to four hits during the opening game, with Sydnee Levandowski collecting two. Adriana Armstrong started for SCC and took the loss.

In the second game, SCC would jump out to a 7-1 lead in the third and hold on for a 7-6 win. After struggling in the opening game, Armstrong returned to mound in relief and tossed 3.2 scoreless innings. She would close the door on Yavapai after they loaded the bases in the seventh inning. Kim Hernandez had two of the Artichokes eight hits.

Scottsdale now stands at 6-6 overall, 2-2 in the conference.

Scottsdale will now welcome perennial ACCAC power Phoenix College on Tuesday, March 5. The Bears were ranked No. 14 in the latest NJCAA National Poll. The first game of that doubleheader begins at 4 p.m.
