Baseball Heads to Mesa to Begin Two-Game Set

The Scottsdale baseball team will visit Mesa today for the start of their two-game weekend set. This will be the first meeting between the two sides this season.

The Artichokes enter the weekend with a 7-11 overall mark and 3-7 in the ACCAC. The team has dropped its last three and five of its past six.

This week, SCC was swept by Phoenix in two well pitched games. SCC managed only a run in each game, losing 4-1 and 3-1.

Scottsdale is hitting .281 as a team and produced a 4.04 ERA this season, both placing eighth among the 13 DI and DII teams in the ACCAC.

Prince Deboskie has been the catalyst for SCC, hitting .438 with a pair of home runs and 14 RBI. His batting average is the fifth-highest among all players in the ACCAC. Chris Ricard is hitting .328 with three home runs and 16 RBI.

Dale Fry (23.1) and Austin Balmes (23.0) have logged the most innings for Artichoke hurlers this season. Fry is 2-1 with a 3.09 ERA, while Balmes is 1-1 with a 2.35 ERA. Balmes has fanned 21 to lead SCC.

After the conclusion of the MCC series, the schedule will be filled with the ACCAC Division I schools, as well as non-conference games. The DI games begin next Tuesday when Yavapai travels to SCC for a doubleheader.
