Softball Goes 2-1 at AZ Western Shootout

The Scottsdale Community College Softball team opened their 2024 campaign on Thursday and Friday at the Arizona Western Shootout Tournament in Yuma, Ariz.

Game 1 – Thursday, Feb. 1. SCC scored a run in the 6th inning to cut the El Paso lead to 3-2. The Artichokes would walk off El Paso with two runs in the 7th inning to complete the 4-3 win. Adrianna Armstrong (1-0) recorded the win, going all 7.0 innings, allowing three unearned runs on three hits. Bailey Nichols and Nina Slater each had two hits. SCC was slated to play two more games on Thursday, but rain forced the cancelation of them.

Game 2 – Friday, Feb. 2. Salt Lake used a five-run 4th inning to pull out a 7-6 win over SCC. Ella Verdine started and took the loss for the Artichokes. Sydnee Levandowski had two hits and two runs scored. Mackenzie Larson had three RBI.

Game 3 – Friday, Feb. 2. SCC wrapped up the weekend with a 16-11 win over El Paso. El Paso would score 8 in the 1st inning, but the Artichokes would plate four in the 1st and 5th innings, as well as three runs in the 2nd and 6th innings to complete the comeback. Levandowski, Slater, Meadow Owens and Michaela Whitehair each had three hits. Slater added four RBI. Armstrong (2-0) picked up the win in relief.

Scottsdale will next be in action on February 13 when they will host Colorado Northwestern for a doubleheader. The first game is slated to being at 11 a.m.
