Second Half Rally Not Enough as Men's Hoops Fall to South

The Scottsdale Community College Men's Basketball team dropped a 68-66 decision to South Mountain tonight at SMCC.

Scottsdale trailed by 17 at the half but erased the deficit with a 17-0 run over the first 6:30 of the second half. SCC led by as many as four points on three occasions in the second half, but SMCC would score the final six points of the game to hang on for the win. King Turner had a game winning 3-pointer rim out at the buzzer.

The Artichokes and Cougars exchanged leads multiple times in the game's first 8 minutes, with South Mountain leading 19-18. From there it was all South Mountain as they outscored Scottsdale 23-7 to lead 42-25 at the half.

Turner paced SCC with 15 points tonight. Thomas Hastings added 13.

Scottsdale has now dropped nine of its past 11 games and falls to 9-9 overall and 5-8 in the ACCAC.

The Artichokes now head to Tucson for a matchup with Pima on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 4 p.m. The Aztecs beat SCC 110-80 on Jan. 3.
