Women's Basketball Defeats SMCC; Dial Earns ACCAC POW Honor

The Scottsdale Community College Women's Basketball team defeated South Mountain 73-38 tonight at SMCC.

The Artichokes got off to a slow start offensively but carried an 11-4 lead after one quarter. Up 14-6 with 6:30 left in the opening half, SCC went on a 16-7 run to lead 30-13 at the break. The two played an even third quarter, with Scottsdale leading 46-28. The fourth quarter was all SCC as they outscored the Cougars 27-10.

Talia Dial led the SCC offense with 22 points on 9-for-23 shooting. She also had six rebounds. Ella Hoover was 6-for-7 from the floor and added a season-high 19 points.

Scottsdale improved to 11-7 overall and 7-6 in the ACCAC.

The Artichokes now head to Tucson for a big matchup with Pima on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 2 p.m. The Aztecs used a strong fourth quarter to defeat SCC 63-54 on Jan. 3.

Dial also was named the ACCAC Division II Player of the Week for the week of January 21 after her 26-point performance vs. Eastern Arizona on Jan. 27.
