Baseball Splits Season Opening Doubleheader

The Scottsdale Community College Baseball team opened the 2024 campaign with a doubleheader split with Colorado Northwestern on Saturday afternoon at SCC.

Game 1 – Scottsdale rallied late but fell in the season opener 9-6 to Colorado NW. The Artichokes trailed 9-0 after four innings before scoring four in the 5th inning and two in the 6th inning. James Hubbard (0-1) started and picked up the loss. Luke Whitlow tossed 3.0 scoreless innings in relief. Prince Deboskie and Kyle Neefe each had two hits, with Deboskie recording a double and triple.

Game 2 – Scottsdale used a six run 6th inning to erase a 4-2 deficit to pull out an 8-4 win. Luke Ruljancich had a double and three RBI. Chris Ricard had a two-run homer. Dale Fry (1-0) picked up the win in relief. He went 2.1 innings, allowing two runs, none earned, on one hit. He had two strikeouts. Austin Balmes (1) pitched 0.2 innings for the save.

**Both games were 7 innings. The Game 2 win was the first collegiate win for SCC Interim Head Coach Ty Gavin.

Scottsdale will be back in action on Monday, January 28 vs. the same Colorado NW. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
