Late Run Leads Thunderbirds Past Women's Hoops
Mesa Community College scored the final 6 points of the game to defeat the Scottsdale Community College Women's Basketball team 52-51 at MCC this afternoon.
Scottsdale held a 51-46 lead in the fourth quarter with 3:59 left but were unable to score the rest of the way out.
Mesa would score the final 7 points of the opening quarter and lead 16-6. SCC made only 2 field goals during the quarter. The Thunderbirds would go up 18-8 with 8:54 remaining in the second quarter, however that was their final points before the half. The Artichokes would score 12 straight to lead 20-18 at the break. Mesa scored the first 8 points of the third quarter and would lead by as many as 7, leading eventually 38-33 after three. SCC drew even quickly in the fourth, scoring the first 5 points.
SCC shot 35% for the game, compared to 32% for MCC. The Thunderbirds held a 45-23 advantage on the boards.
Ella Hoover led SCC with a season-high 17 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the floor. She also had 4 rebounds.
With the loss, the Artichokes fall to 8-5 overall and 4-4 in the ACCAC.
The two sides will meet again this Wednesday at SCC, with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
