Artichokes Come Up Short in Yuma
The Scottsdale Community College Men's Basketball team lost 80-79 in overtime to Arizona Western tonight in Yuma.
The Artichokes, making their first bus trip of the season, started well taking a 35-29 lead at the half. They would build the lead to as much as 13 with 13:11 left, before the Matadors crawled their way back into the game. With the score tied at 64-64, Charles Temple hit a 3-pointer to give SCC a 67-64 lead with 43 seconds remaining. The lead was short lived as Arizona Western hit a three of their own to knot the game at 67-67. Each side team had a chance to win the game in final seconds before settling for overtime. The overtime period was a back and forth affair with SCC taking lead on five occasions. The last being at 79-78 on a bucket and free throw from King Turner with 28 seconds left. Arizona Western would regain the lead for good on a putback layup with 3 seconds left. Turner attempted the final shot for SCC, but it was blocked to close out the game for the Matadors.
Turner led the Artichokes with 21 points on 7-for12 shooting, adding 7 rebounds. Temple added 11 off the bench for SCC.
SCC falls to 7-4 overall and 3-3 in the ACCAC.
Scottsdale returns to the campus of SCC to face Glendale Community College on Jan. 10. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
