Women's Soccer Set to Host Region I Semifinal
The Scottsdale Women's Soccer program will host Pima tomorrow, Oct. 24 at 2 p.m. in the NJCAA Region I Semifinals. The winner will advance to the Region I Final, which will be played on Saturday, Oct. 28. Site to be determined.
**PLEASE NOTE: Due to the SCC Stadium Field not meeting NJCAA field standards for postseason games, the semifinal contest will be played on SCC's Multipurpose Field 3, located just to the north of the Stadium Field. The match will be free of charge. Fans are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and/or blankets, as Field 3 does not have bleacher seating.
The Artichokes and Aztecs are familiar postseason foes, having met in the Region I Semifinals in four of the past five seasons. In those meetings, the Aztecs have advanced to the Finals on three of the four occasions. Pima won 1-0 in 2021 and 2-1 last season, both matches taking place in Tucson. During the Covid season of 2020-21, the semifinal was played during the Spring of '21. In that contest the two sides played to a 3-3 draw, with Pima advancing on penalty kicks. SCC's lone win of the four meetings took place in 2018, a 1-0 win at SCC. Coincidentally, that match was also played on Multipurpose Field 3.
Scottsdale and Pima have already met twice this season. SCC defeated Pima 2-1 at home on Aug. 29 in a non-conference match. The two played to a 2-2 draw in a conference match in Tucson on Sept. 12. In that match, SCC went up 2-1 on a goal from Jaden Nelson in the 84th minute. Pima's Lizzie Walker scored the equalizer in the final minute of the match.
During the regular season, Shayla Hunt has led Scottsdale with 14 goals. Izzi Parks and Kaslee Roskelley have each added 9. Roskelley also has team-best 11 assists. Indi Stum tallied 8 goals and 8 assists for the season.
Rosalia Oyzerovich and Aubriella Whisler have spilt time in goal this season for the Artichokes. Oyzerovich has 6 wins this season and Whisler has logged 5.
