Men's Soccer Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive with Win Over South

The Scottsdale men's soccer team kept their playoff hopes alive with a 4-1 victory at South Mountain today.

After converting the game winner at Eastern Arizona this past Tuesday, Santiago Estrada Derbez kept the hot hand with a brace in today's contest. Derbez opened the scoring in the 5th minute and added the final tally in the 81st minute.

SCC would lead 2-0 at the break after Luka Tomasevic's first goal of the match in the 26th minute. South Mountain pulled one back in the first few minutes of the second half, but Tomasevic answered in the 74th minute with his second goal of the day.

SCC continued its impressive run of form, having now won four, with two draws and only one loss over its past seven matches.

The win improves the Artichokes to 4-7-3 overall, 4-4-2 in the ACCAC.

Scottsdale will now host #4 Phoenix in their final regular season match of the season on Tuesday at 8 p.m. In order to make the NJCAA Region I playoffs, the Artichokes will need a win and get some help in other conference games to be played over the next week. The game will also honor the SCC Sophomore class.
