Volleyball wins two, Soccer programs gain momentum

Volleyball

RECAP: It was a great week for Volleyball as they went 2-0 this past week. Last Thursday the Artichokes cruised to a 3-0 win over Ottawa JV. Samantha Gloria and McKenna Dressel each had a match-high 10 kills. Cayla Gaxiola had a team-high 15 digs. On Monday the Artichokes opened conference play with a commanding 25-12, 25-15, 25-12 win over Yavapai. The team produced a .366 hitting percentage and were led by McKenna Dressel's 12 kills.

UP NEXT: SCC travels today to face Eastern Arizona at 7 p.m. They then travel to Tucson for two matches on Saturday. First will be a match with Southeastern CC at 2 p.m., followed by match against Williston State at 7 p.m. The road swing continues on Monday, Aug. 28 with a non-conference match at Central Arizona.

 

Women's Soccer

RECAP: It was a busy stretch for women's soccer who played three games in six days. SCC fell 3-1 at #4 Phoenix College last Thursday. Shayla Hunt had the lone Scottsdale goal. On Sunday Johnson County visited SCC from Kansas and held on for a 1-0 win. The Artichokes had the better of the match in the final stages, but were unable to find the equalizer. Scottsdale got in the win column with a 2-0 win over Glendale last night. While only scoring two goals in the contest, the Artichokes controlled the game throughout. Jaden Nelson and Izzi Parks scored for SCC. All matches last week were non-conference affairs.

UP NEXT: The Artichokes will host Mesa on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in another non-conference tilt.

 

Men's Soccer

RECAP: The men's team saw their matchup with PC canceled last Thursday due to lightning and thunderstorms. On Sunday, visiting Johnson County prevailed with a 6-1 win over the Artichokes. Luka Tomasevic scored for SCC. Last night, Scottsdale rallied from a 3-1 deficit to draw 3-3 with Glendale. Santiago Estrada Derbez, Hayden kos and Chris Ramos all scored for SCC. Both matches were non-conference.  

UP NEXT: The Artichokes will host Mesa on Saturday at 8 p.m. in another non-conference tilt.
