
Artichokes Take Down Cochise College
The Scottsdale CC Fighting Artichokes Women's Basketball team continued through a tough stretch of 5 games in 10 days with the ACCAC Opener against Cochise College, finishing victorious and improving to 5-0 (1-0). The Lady Artichokes trailed after the opening stanza, 23-20. They began to chip away in the 2nd period and headed into halftime trailing 35-33.
That's when the story changed. After exchanging buckets to start the 3rd quarter, Scottsdale rattled off a huge run going up by as many as 20 points and headed into the 4th quarter with a 62-48 lead. Scottsdale continued the hot shooting ending with a final score of 84-74.
The Fighting Artichokes were fueled by heavy bench productivity as 50 points came from the reserves.
Alayna Benvaides-Johnson went 4-5 from long range as part of her 15 points to go along with 18 from Elysia Fleetwood. Halle Payne continued her double-digit scoring streak, piling in 14 points as well.
Scottsdale will return to action Saturday November 20 at home against Park University – JV. Conference Play will resume Tuesday November 23 as the Artichokes host Chandler-Gilbert Community College prior to the holiday break.
